"Clickety-clacking along on the train between Edmonton and Jasper, the passengers and I had a wonderful time, singing traditional Canadian songs together with Canadians and others, and joining together with percussion instruments to create more rhythms.  The VIA rail staff were outstanding, lending a hand at every opportunity, and merrily encouraging passengers to join in!  As a singer/songwriter, I found the train travel from the prairies through the foothills and into the Rocky Mountains a tremendously inspirational experience.  At least one new song has come into creation as a result!"

Dawn Bissett, 2007

A quote from 2006...

"The train trip was so much fun. I ate lunch

right away and as soon as I got back to the Activity Car I started drawing people and I didn't stop, even finishing up a caricature after the train stopped in Edmonton.  There was such a energetic feeling the whole time with lots of laughter. The tour guides thought that it was such a great idea to have artists on the train, they will enjoy the other artists just as much." Artist Laurel Hawkswell

"Music is movement, so what better place to play than on a moving
object.  We had a good time performing for and with people - old
fashioned sing-a-longs, train songs, fiddle tunes - they all suited the
crowd and the feel on VIA rail",  Musician and Entertainer, Bill Hamm 2005

"We thought it was an excellent means of presenting art and music to a wide range of people from Canada and around the world.  We hope that artists on the rails becomes a regular feature of train travel in Canada!" Musicians Cam Neufeld and Marianne Watchel, 2005

"The opportunity to discuss our artworks outside of a typical art context was fascinating, people wanted to make a connection by telling us their experiences. We heard lovely stories about first encounters with art and about artworks that they couldn't imagine being without. It was heart-warming to hear that, even though they hadn't really identified it before, art was a part of their lives." Trudy Golley RCA, ceramic artist.

Many thanks to the wonderful folks at MacLab Hotels and Resorts for hosting these artists in 2005 when they arrived in Jasper!
