Day 3
|
Well,
hopefully you have had your fill of theatre and galleries and spas –
because now we are headed to Sundre for a day of demonstration at Up
Country Kilns. A potters
escape into the Foothills one and one half hours northwest of Calgary.
One hundred and eighty acres of woodland. This sidetrek of course requires letting Up Country Kilns
know you are coming. Didn’t
plan ahead well – then lets stop over in Cochrane
less than one hour
north of Calgary and see Don Beggs working in his bronze studio.
The pioneer spirit cannot be escaped as you wander into this
unassuming studio filled with sculpture created on the premises by one
of Canada’s top bronzemen. Hungry?
We recommend the Canyon Rose Saloon located on the main street of
Cochrane in the Rockyview Hotel. If you are lucky
the player piano will be functional!
Take the time to wander back of the restaurant into the bar –
santer up to the hand carved 30 foot bar that was rumoured to have been
left behind by the Wild West Shows of the 1920’s.
You will be impressed! Of
course if you are a celebrity hound – then you may want to eat at the
Blue Dog Café in Cochrane - recommended
by Brad Pitt. And you
can’t leave Cochrane without having an icecream at MacKays, 200
flavours to choose from. Its been a long day. The Cochrane Valley Folk Club might be the way to settle down for the evening. Or maybe you just want to rest. If the rustic charm of the Rockyview Hotel doesn’t appeal try the Hummingbird Haven. Perhaps the calm quiet of sleeping in a sodhouse is just what you need.
