THE CIRCLE and a bit TOUR

DAY 8, 9 – HEADING WEST
Ok – this is the day you have all been waiting for.  After 7 days of theatre and galleries and playing in studios…you get to head for the mountains!  And you know what is even better than more driving?  Take the train.  Via Rail has a summer program of Artists on Rails.  Hopefully you will be able to link to that schedule – if not – just sit back and let the swaying of the train lull you to the mountains.  You will miss the opportunity to check out small towns – Stony Plain, Wabamun (where you can actually take a in an afternoon of sailing!) Edson and Hinton.  Edson has a wonderful old 1920’s red brick school that is now home to a theatre and gallery space.  Hinton is home to the funny folks at Break A Leg Theatre.

So maybe you should drive to Jasper.  If you don’t take the train you will arrive in Jasper approximately 4 hours after leaving Edmonton.  Jasper has a varied array of festivals and music venues.  The real treat is the town is so wonderfully compact you can trek around all day without a car.  After all those cinnamon buns, ice cream and stoneground donuts you might take Jasper as the chance to do a day hike or a canoe ride- this we call mountain culture!  Or visit the home of the European Wellness Centre at the Sawridge Hotel for another visit to the spa.

From late May until the end of August take in the Artists on Rails evening events in Jasper.  Year one was hosted at MacLab Hotels - year two's hosts were the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre!

B&B’s are easily found and the Jasper Muse Cruise Guide has suggestions for making arts and cultural connections.
