How to get the best deal on a cruise

Going on a cruise is very pleasant way to get away. A lot of people dream of going on a cruise vacation but are a bit unsure of going on one because of the expenses involved.  Cruising can be a great vacation value. You can have the vacation of your dreams by looking for the best deals.  Thankfully, it is not that difficult to find ways of getting lower priced cruises and discounts, you just have to know where to look.  When booking an adventurous cruise, make sure you get the best possible price available. It just requires some research and a lot of patience but in the end, you will be able to find the best deals.

There are different ways to find the best deals, purchasing a cruise ticket was once as simple as going to your local travel agent and asking about any deals they might get for you while looking through a couple of brochures.  However, with the growth of the industry and technology there is a vast selection of packages, itineraries, purchasing options and prices to choose from.  Navigating through all the information available can be quite a challenge.  Here are a few tips that you could follow to help you clinch the best possible cruise for you money.

Book Early

The best time to book your cruise vacation is between six months to a year before your departure date.  Booking your cruise early could get you the lowest prices and the best options to upgrade if you book your cruise early on.  There are also package deals for “early birds” on some cruise lines and always make sure you inquire about such discounts upon booking.  And as an added bonus? You get the first pick of the cabins in their category and you are assured of getting your desired dining seating. One of the reasons to book well in advance is that sailing to popular destinations and holiday cruises sell out quickly.  If you wait longer, you will have to make do with what is left.  In addition, cruises that sell well in the market their rates tend to go up as the departure dates approach.

Off-Season

Off-Season happens from October to mid-December, after the holidays in January and from March to May.  When choosing the dates for the cruise vacation consider the dates in the off- season, it will be less expensive than the peak season.  Try to schedule your cruise during these months or even a few weeks before or after the peak season and you will substantially save a lot of money.  By the way, keep in mind that off-season varies it depends on the itinerary.  For example, Caribbean cruises the off-season would be during the fall months, the non- holiday portions of November and December, and early January.  For European cruises, look for deals from late March through April and again from mid-September to November.   In Alaskan cruises, soft (discount) periods include May, early June and September.

Wave Period

The “wave period” is usually January through March and is the cruise line industry’s busiest booking period.  It is the time when they hope to entice people to book in advance for spring, summer and fall voyages.  A great tip, booking through these months and planning departures dates during the off-season would get you the best overall deals.  The low price of off-season cruise tickets and the deals given by the cruise lines during these months is a perfect combination.  Some cruise lines will even include free amenities and special offers.
